Hi loves,
Just checking in! An unfortunate hiatus from the blog has occurred, as I suspected it would, due to no internet. I will hopefully be returning next Tuesday but the installation keeps getting cancelled! I just wanted to let you know that all is well and I am absolutely loving my time here so far. I have been very fortunate to meet some lovely bloggers and to be kept busy with work. I have found a lovely flat, am loving London and work is going well (don't want to jinx myself though). Seriously, I could not have asked for a smoother transition. I also have a tiny backyard in which to take outfit photos in! While it isn't the ideal location (I miss my home locations), I will be on the hunt for secluded pretty areas. London is gorgeous, I'm sure I won't have a problem!
I hope you are all doing well and I will be back soon, I am missing you all terribly!

Hi Crimson Rosella readers, Meanz here from Koi Story. I am very excited to guest post for Kirstin as she makes the big move to London to follow her dreams - she is so inspirational. So, I would like to think that my blog is a start in the right direction in following my dreams. I'd like to one day own my own online shop (not just an etsy) my own online boutique, and to freelance in graphic and web design - oh, and the opportunity to travel. This blog has helped me come out of my shell and try new things I would have never tried, and I feel as though it is a great step in the right direction for where I want to be. I am also in my third year of college pursuing a BFA in graphic design. I work hard and I am extremely dedicated. I feel as though those two things are extremely important in following your dreams. Little Purple Weeds

My dream has always been to write poetry and to perhaps sing jazz in a local joint, though nothing large-scale. I don't seek fame but rather dream of living a simple life. That being said, I dream of travel and adventure, and I like to imagine lovers in far away lands.

To me, my dream of writing is a bit like finding a those purple flower-weeds in July. The scorching sun burns the grass and the wicked heat singes the flowers.. but every now and again you see a surviving weed hidden in shade. One can't help but feel that it's his or her own secret. I know it doesn't make the most sense, but having something that is my own, even if some people don't understand why I spend my time chasing weeds, is how I know I'm alive.

I've taken the steps to ensure my dream of travel and literature by learning French, studying poetry at university, and quietly singing jazz when the moment presents itself. I write in notebooks to capture my youth and my state of mind, and I store them away in a box in my room.

My dream is just that-- my dream. I've had many in my life discourage me along the way. 'You're intelligent, and writing won't pay the bills'.. but it is my life and my dream and my wish. I am the one who has to live with my choices and therefore I deserve to do what makes me happy. Isn't that all we can hope for?
In two years, I will have my teaching licence and I will be inspiring 6-8 grade students and telling them about dreams. I hope that my life continues as it has so that I may enrich them with my journeys and help to shape these children into the version of themselves they aspire to be. Dreams are the thing we must fight for as our dreams our little bits of our soul, little purple weeds.

Hello, My name is Megan.

I run a little blog called Sock Monkey and Gee.

I am so thrilled that Kirstin asked me to do a blog post for her while she is moving.

I am also so very happy and excited for Kirstin to take this huge amazing leap.

I can not wait to see and hear about all of her adventures.

Kirstin wanted us to talk about a time that I faced my fears.

The time when I went to college immediately entered my mind.

I am from Tennessee and when I was a moody senior in high school I could not wait to leave the nest and become the "real me". When graduation came and went, it was finally time to pick colleges.

All of the sudden I did not want to leave home and decided I wanted to go to the local college instead.

Of course, my parents did not like that idea. They said, "Leaving and moving away is the best thing for me." So, off I moved 8 long hours away from my parents to Ohio. It was the most horrible three months of my life. I knew absolutely no one and had no clue where anything was (plus, I did not own a car). Thankfully, it got easier and friends were made and life was wonderful. My parents are, of course always right and I am very thankful that they gave me no choice and pushed me to do what was not comfortable. I now believe doing things that you are afraid of doing because you are afraid of change is worth it in the end. (plus, I got a great education AND met my husband!)

I am very thankful that I got the opportunity to face my fears. It has helped me with my current life situation at the moment. If it was not for moving and becoming independent when I was younger, I am not sure I would be able to be as comfortable as I am now.

The husband and I have moved three times in four years to three different states. But instead of dreading the moves, I have learned to find the good and many adventures that are waiting for us instead.

Hi, I'm Charlotte and I blog over at girl next door fashion. I am absolutely honoured that Kirstin asked me to guest post for her while she makes her big move. I am so excited for her, and here's why...

My first day at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

In September 2010, I did the biggest, scariest thing I had ever done. I kissed my parents goodbye and took my first flight alone to Amsterdam, and then to Detroit, and then, on the tiniest plane I had ever seen, to Duluth, Minnesota where I was spending my year abroad. I'm originally from Manchester, UK (and can't wait to meet Kirstin when she gets over here!), and when I was 17, I chose a course in English and American Studies at the University of Birmingham, which meant that my 3rd year had a compulsory year studying in America. This felt forever away for a 17 year old, finishing my time in college. I didn't even think about it in my first year, but in my second year I started to get scared. I had a great life at university, amazing friends and I lived in a place that I loved. All I could think of was that I'd be leaving all of this behind. I thought I would lose my friends and nothing would ever be the same.

How wrong I was.

My year abroad was without a doubt the scariest, but most unbelievably amazing year of my entire life. It was hard, and sometimes it was downright awful, but at other times, it was the best time I have ever had. I'm an only child and I used to get homesick at university 100 miles away. Now I lived 5000 miles from home. I loved living in one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen, loved the friendly people who would stop and talk to me because of my accent, loved my classes where I worked hard and did well, I even loved the 6-month-long winter and all the snow! I have never felt more at home somewhere so far from home.

Studying abroad in the States has changed who I am completely, for the better. I am so much more determined now, so much more confident, so much more brave. I went away to the other side of the world where I knew nobody for a whole year, aged just 20. And now I would give my whole world to go back. And you know what, I will do one day. One day, no matter what, I will move back to America. Studying abroad helped me realise my dreams and taught me that you can do anything. There are always going to be things that stop you, things that scare you- don't even get me started on my Visa drama- but sometimes you have to just do it! I've applied to work back in the States this Summer, and instead of being scared, this time I'm excited. I have no idea where I'm going to be or what I'm going to be doing, but I'm ready for the challenge.
I am so, so excited for Kirstin, and part of it is because I, too, went through a big break up over the summer (with my American boyfriend who I met while I was abroad), and I am so proud of her for going doing something wonderful- and scary- with her life now. She has had a new lease of life and she is such an inspiration to me after my break up to go and do something amazing that I couldn't have done if I wasn't single.

Kirstin- you are such an inspiration and I cannot wait to meet you!

Following Your Dreams: Coco Maria

Hello there Crimson Rosella readers! I'm Nicole, from the blog Coco Maria. When Kirstin asked if I could do a guest post talking a bit about facing fears and following your dreams, I was so excited. Kirstin has been a big inspiration for me not only because of her wonderful fashionsense, but also in sharing her story and journey with all of us readers.

Recently, I faced a big fear of mine, getting out a relationship I didn't want to be in, and am now working toward a dream of mine as well - realizing my self-worth in everything that I do. Before I started dating, I thought I needed a boyfriend. During all three of my relationships I let my boyfriends treat me badly all because I couldn't see my own self worth. I've never been exceptionally confident, so when I started dating, I just wanted to be the best girlfriend I could. I was afraid of being alone and abandoned. I was afraid of making mistakes (though I've made plenty, trust me) because I thought that if I didn't shape up I would be left alone. Those thoughts make me shudder, and the fact that they make me shudder is just evidence of how far I've come. No more letting people belittle me, no more dating boys who treat me badly and don't encourage me to grow and blossom, and probably most importantly no more telling myself that I'm not worth it.

As I'm sure all of you know, every day is a struggle to live by these precedents I've set for

myself, but I know I can do it. I know you guys can do it, too. I'm positive, in fact. And it doesn't need to be new year to make a change in your life. I had been feeling off one week in August, like something was wrong in my relationship that had been for a long time, and I made the plunge to break up with my boyfriend of four years. It wasn't until about November when I realized just how badly he had treated me, how small and weak his words had made me feel. Since then, I've never looked back and I've just been growing stronger, and I've honestly been happier with myself than ever before.

So my best advice for you guys is just to recognize your worth. Never settle for anything less than what you want, or tell yourself that you don't deserve whatever it is you want. You are absolutely worth it, and you can absolutely accomplish every dream you have for yourself.

Following Your Dreams: The Styling Dutchman

Kirstin has been going through a lot of changes in her life recently, and now she's moving continents. On one hand I'm glad I have certainties in my life, and the safety my boyfriend provides, but on the other hand I'd love to just be able to decide to drop everything and move my life to the other side of the world. If there is one thing I find frustrating about life, it is the fact that we only have one life to live while the earth is so vast, containing so many different people and so many different lives. Maybe it's my fickle Gemini mind, but I often wish I could switch lives (and hairdos) with the blink of an eye. One day I'd be a student at the Sorbonne, the next I'd be a temple maiden in Kyoto. I just want to experience it all!

But on the other hand, I'm scared. People who meet me would say I come across as bold, headstrong, maybe even bossy. And I am all those things. But I'm also scared to fail, scared to disappoint others and myself. I'm both impulsive and a control freak. Maybe my dream of moving abroad is just a manifestation of wanting to run away from my responsibilities and fears rather than a love for adventure. Maybe it's both. Yep, definitely my fickle Gemini mind.

Also, this is why I dye my hair strange colors: to keep holding onto the freedom of adolescence. I will NOT fit in!

I look up to people like Kirstin because they live life, ups and downs and middle grounds. Real people with real hopes, dreams and fears, just like mine. Also, I wish I had a beehive like hers.

Follow the yellow brick road

Hi, I’m Emily from Ruby Slipper Journeys here to let you know about following the yellow brick road (or following your dreams), as Kirstin sets off on a journey to follow her own. Back when I was in third year university, I discovered that travelling and living in foreign countries was one of my dreams too, and since then I’ve moved around a lot—from Barcelona to Johannesburg to Guadalajara… and even London, where Kirstin’s gone.

In Cape Town, South Africa

When she asked me to write a guest post she said it was because I was a “brave, inspiring person going on all [my] travels.” This made me blush a bit, but the main point is, I think, that you don’t really need to be that brave to do these things. Moving away from your friends and family is hard, but if you know you want it, sometimes you just have to make the decision—and then once you’re stuck in the foreign country there’s not much you can do about it in the short term but make the best of it!

I’m sure Kirstin will be just fine in London… maybe she’ll come back changed, stronger, more self-reliant. Or maybe… she’ll choose to stay there!

Either way, wishing her as warm and daffodil-filled a spring as the one I spent there last year. : )

Following Your Dreams: Kristine or Polly

Hello Crimson Rosella readers! My name is Kristine and I blog over at Kristine or Polly. I am so excited for Kirstin's adventures in England!

I am originally from the U.S, but in April, my husband and I made the huge decision to live in Japan for a bit. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. There's something so special and indescribable about stepping out of your comfort zone and opening up to a new culture... It's also an extreme relief to let go of your past and start completely new. You'll experience moments that are completely your own. You'll learn to rely on yourself as you navigate the everyday happenings of your new life. Living abroad has made me a stronger person. It has made me more conscious of the big, big world that exists outside of my bubble at home.

Of course, things aren't always butterflies and rainbows living outside of your home country. You let go of being comfortable. You may not feel as though you truly belong. Your friends and family are not easily accessible. It's normal to experience some sort of homesickness. This hit me hard after a few months in Japan. The good news is, that it passes, and when it leaves you are both more appreciative of where you came from, and where you are currently. Even though I've had some of the most difficult moments of my life here, I would never trade it for anything.

Good luck Kirstin on your big move! Can't wait to see what comes next for you.

Following Your Dreams: Steffys Pros and Cons.

Hi, I am Steffy of the blog Steffys Pros and Cons and I am EXCITEDLY here filling in for Kirstin while she takes a big step in her life and moves to England. I am SO so excited for her, and feel like I can relate to her life change!

Back in July of 2010, a few months after I graduated from college with a degree in journalism, I realized I had NO clue what to do with my life. When my boyfriend matt told me he was moving to Nicaragua for an open ended amount of time, I jumped at the opportunity to change my scenery and think things through before I jumped in to "real life." I spent July through December in Nicaragua reading, writing and most of all following fashion blogs!

I began 2011 back in Florida just as confused about everything, until I began my own fashion blog. Starting my blog led me to discover more than I ever thought it would.. mainly that I can make a living doing something that is creative. Since the start of my blog in February of 2011, I have enrolled in fashion school for fashion merchandising, opened up my own online store, tea and tulips, and I have met SO many inspiring ladies all over the world.

I have realized through 2011 that you can't rush life, but you also can't just wait for it to happen to you. You have to constantly follow your heart and do what makes you happy. I cannot wait to see everything that is in store for Kirstin in England, but I just know that by being brave enough to go in the first place, she is opening up the door to endless opportunities!

Tonight I leave for London, England to begin a new life- however long it lasts. I may not stay long or I may stay forever; I will have to decide when the time comes. So now, my new year really begins. I am starting over, starting a career, meeting new people (I hope) and learning to be alone. I want to create a life that I'm proud of and can look back on knowing I did everything that I wanted. When I look back on my life I don't want to say that fear held me back because most of the time fear holds me back from doing anything and everything. So here I am, taking the plunge and jumping off that cliff. I will develop my wings as I fall (however the quote goes).

I remember leaving for Australia almost two years ago now. The memories of that day were so vivid. I remember saying goodbye to my little sister (her not really knowing what was happening as she was five at the time), I remember saying goodbye to my mother at the airport as both of us tried not to cry. I remember arriving in Australia and just feeling floored with the realization of what I had done. I had never felt so lost. My boyfriend at the time sat on the bed with me that night and quietly asked, "What have we done?" We both didn't want to admit that we were scared and unsure if we had made the right decision.

It was the right decision and it was one of the best choices I ever made. So much so that here I am two years after arriving in Australia and one year after arriving home, leaving again. I don't really know what I'm doing, I might hate it but I think I'm okay with that. It will be a change from where I am in my life right now and a lesson learned.

I don't even recognize the person that I was in the summer. I don't know that girl. I don't know the girl who was happily in a relationship for four years and I don't know the girl who was crippled by the break up. I have learned so many lessons about myself and know they will continue.

I am on a mission to step outside of my comfort zone and become the person I've always known I could be. I want to combat my low self-esteem and really develop. I want to flourish. I don't know how but every lesson in my life so far has brought me a step closer to it. You might be thinking, "Ugh, I am so sick of Kirstin's talk about journeys, mistakes, self-exploration and confidence bull crap!" But, this is my outlet, this is where I let it all out. The reason for the giant journey to "finding me" is because at the beginning of all this, I didn't really like myself much. In fact, I hated who I was. I hated the quiet, shy girl who was controlled by her fears and was perceived as invisible by everyone around her. But this blog and certain experiences in my life have pushed me to want to take control of my life and love every minute of it!

I was thinking about my blog name, Crimson Rosella and thinking how it almost didn't feel like it fit me any longer. I named this blog after the little Australian bird because I created the blog in Australia, at one of the happiest times in my life. The bird was a representation of that. Now when I think about it, the name is just a memory of a happier time. But I'm not going to change it because the name also represents one of the steps of my journey: it was the first step. Australia was my baby step (although the 22 hour plane ride didn't feel like a small step), it was the first step of my journey to finding myself (yes, I'm cheesy).

Now, the point of this terribly long, self-indulgent rant was to tell you that I will probably be away from the internet for about 3 weeks (depending on when I get internet in London). So I wanted to tell you that although I will be away, I have amazing guest bloggers lined up for the next couple of weeks. They are seriously awesome! You may think, ah, I never read guest posts (honestly, I rarely do) but these are worth a read. I asked some lovely ladies that inspire me daily to discuss how they have followed their dreams and faced fears in their every day life. I wasn't expecting much but they seriously blew me away! I have some inspiring blogger friends! So today was my installment of "Following Your Dreams", stick around for more the next couple of weeks!

Last year, I had no idea what 2011 had in store for me. Let me tell you, it wasn’t good. But if I had the chance would I erase this year? Nope, wouldn’t change it at all. I feel that even during my time of reflecting, healing and saving money for England, I have become a stronger person. I’m not going to lie, 2011 wasn’t kind to me. This year was full of pain but also of healing, nurturing and developing tremendous strength.

This year was a doozy but I have managed to see it in a positive light. Years ago or perhaps even a year ago, I would never have been able to do that. Also, a couple of years ago I would have just stayed inside my comfort zone, hoping things would get better or perfectly happy with no changes in my life. But I suppose my year of school in Australia in 2010 gave me a taste of something that isn’t yet fulfilled. I realized what travel brings and I yearn for more. I have to step outside of my comfort zone. I’ve never been one for resolutions and this year I just long for a fresh start.

England might not work out and I’m okay with that. Right now I’m more concerned with the lessons I’m learning. Right now for myself, there is no point in staying stagnant inside my comfort zone. I’m on a small mission to make my life more fulfilling, to live in the now and to be positive. If I return from England having failed, at least I can say I tried. But I won’t know how it turns out until I actually try and I think my biggest regret would be not trying.

What did I learn this year?

I have to learn to like myself. I’m not there yet but I’m getting there. I am my best friend and when it comes down to it, all I’ve got. I will be everywhere I go so I have to learn to be comfortable with that.

I discovered strength that I never knew I had. I knew I was strong because of past events in my life but I never really knew how strong. I wouldn’t call myself a positive person, in fact, I’m quite negative. Yet, this year when I was knocked down I used my strength to pick myself back up with a positive outlook on life that I’ve never had.

I have to live in the now. I need to stop planning and living in the future. I have spent my whole life chasing the future and often forget to live. I have planned for university, for a job, for relationships and this year it all came to a stand-still. It was absolutely terrifying to me that everything got put on hold. However, with a little help, I realized that happiness comes from the little things and the present moment. I found enjoyment out of my blog, my surroundings, my menial jobs and the people that love me.

So 2012, I don’t have any big New Year’s resolutions for you but just a vow to step outside of my comfort zone once in a while. I’m not looking for cracks in my life that need to be fixed but I’m hoping to use the tough lessons I learned in 2011 and apply them to my life in 2012. I am seeing the potential in myself and I have to say that I like it.

Hi guys!

I've been packing away here and it hasn't been fun. Trying to stuff your life into two suitcases is not easy. I had my suitcases all packed and realized that one of the handles was broken (I had forgotten it got broken in Fiji). I guess I will be looking for another suitcase!

You can't really tell but this dress is velvet. I am so in love with velvet right now and the thrift stores are stocked full of old 90's velvet!

I'm getting my hair done next week before I leave, do you guys think I should grow my hair out or cut it into my regular bob? No idea, I will probably cut it and let it grow in England...

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and a wonderful Boxing Day! For some time my mom and I have had the tradition of lining up at Zara to get the deals. We never used to go to Boxing Day but the winter sale is usually the only time I ever buy from Zara. Yesterday we were first in line and pretty worried about being trampled when we realized how long the line up was behind us! Well, we didn't get trampled and I got some great trousers for supply teaching! Hope you checked out my Christmas posts over the weekend!

Happy Christmas Eve loves! I know many of you aren't blogging today but I haven't shown much Christmas spirit here on the blog so I thought I would throw up a post of a Christmas outfit! I've been having trouble taking outfit pictures due to the weather lately so I quickly took these tonight. I had this whole week planned with holiday outfits but it has rained every single day! I wore this to Walmart when my mom decided last minute that she just did not have enough presents for my little sister. She does that every year (my sis is so spoiled). When my sis opens everything on Christmas morning my mom will say, "Oh, I bought too much didn't I?"

It is hard to believe that I have had bob-like hair for almost two years now. Before that my hair had been past my chest since I was little. For so long, my hair was something I hid behind. As an acne ridden university student, I thought my pretty, thick and long blonde hair was the only thing I had going for me. When people first met me, they would comment on my hair. It was all I had, or so I thought.

When I moved to Australia in 2010, I became a different person. I was happy with myself. I stopped wearing a lot of makeup (I can't believe I wore heavy eyeshadow in colours like bright purple daily) and I cut off all my hair. I didn't need to hide behind these things any longer, gosh, I never needed to hide behind them in the first place. Isn't it funny how we change little by little? Things we thought were so scary are no longer scary, our life exists in cycles and phases, each bit getting easier. I never thought I could live across the world like I did for a year in Australia. Yet, I succeeded and it turned out to be one of the best years of my life. I will talk about Australia until I am an old lady, living with my cats and my grandchildren will whine, "Granny, you've told us this story a million times!"

I'm realizing that if we simply face our fears, they are no longer so overwhelming and scary like we once thought. So here I am, facing fears. I can do it, I can.

So there you have it, my big surprise. I am moving to London, England to teach! I leave January 9th. I have had this in the works since the summer when a huge change in my life (I don’t need to mention it again do I?) caused me to have a quarter life crisis. I needed a change and I needed it now. I didn’t like myself, I didn’t like my friends, I hated living with my father and I hated feeling like a dead-beat in my career. I knew I couldn’t continue living in my small town that everyone I know has moved out of. I knew I couldn’t progress with my life while dog walking and waitressing, aimlessly waiting for a job as a supply teacher. The job market for teachers in Ontario is terrible, especially in my area. Everyone wants a job in Toronto or the GTA! One is LUCKY to get a job as a supply teacher.

Teachers have told me it takes about FIVE YEARS as a SUPPLY teacher or on contracts to get something more permanent. The problem is that no one is willing to move. So I had to make the choice, sit here and wait for a job for years or move somewhere where I will at least get supply work with the possibility of something permanent. I was unhappy with my life here, no chance to progress and become a happy, healthy and whole person. So I decided to move to London, England. It was a long process but I finally have my UK Ancestry Visa and can stay for 5 years if I like. If I don’t want to, I can stay for a couple of months, no pressure.

To fill you in, I am going to start out as a supply teacher in South London and hope to get something more permanent for September (if I like it). They say it is better to start out on supply so you get used to the schools and don’t take a random permanent teaching job in a crummy area. I have been told about all the horror stories about teaching in London. I have been told what terrors the kids are. Yet, for some reason I still feel inclined to go. I guess I have to see for myself. I’ve decided to put no pressure on myself, if I don’t like it, I don’t like it. So what? I can call it a lesson learned. Now, the rest of this post is quite diary like, so I’m sorry for the arrogant self-indulgence and openness about my life that you probably don’t want to hear…

It will be lonely and scary and horrible at first. I am moving to a new country, totally alone and starting my career for the first time. I will be undergoing so many changes that I need to forgive myself for any mistakes I make or the stress I feel. I have learned in these past four months that forgiving yourself is key to survival. When I think about this experience and ponder if I’m making a mistake, I think of this quote,

"The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing and becomes nothing- he may avoid suffering & sorrow but he simply can't learn & feel & change & grow & love & live.”

So if I continue to do nothing, I will learn nothing. If I realize this is all a terrible mistake, I at least learned something! I stepped outside the box and tried something new. I have realized that my fears run my life completely. I am so scared of absolutely everything. I am scared of driving; navigating my way places, meeting new people, starting my career, finding my soul mate and the list goes on... I am so terrified of everything. In my downtime lately, I have realized I have to walk through my wall of fears. If I don’t face these fears, they will continue to hold me back forever.

I am trying to use this experience to grow and change, I want to LEARN something. I am the biggest scaredy-cat I know… How in the world am I (a small town girl of 800 people) going to navigate on buses, the tube and trains around London? We’ll find out won’t we? That’s what I have to realize, I need to face these fears as they come. I need to stop worrying about what I can’t control and just realize that I am STRONG and can do anything if I set my mind to it.

In July, I never even considered going to England all alone. Then after my break up, a few of my friends planted the seed and said, “Why don’t you go? It will be good for you!” I replied with, “I could never do it alone.” Then I started to think about it seriously and it became a possibility. I remember being in grade 9 with my old best friend who used to live across the street from me. We would go on these long walks and talk about our dreams. Eventually somewhere down the road we lost touch and I stopped talking about my dreams. In fact, I didn’t let myself think about having dreams because they were usually too scary.

Well, back in grade 9, on those long walks, I used to talk to my best friend about my dream to live in London, England in a quaint little flat. The dream extended to me being a fabulous fashion designer but blogger will have to do for now… Then in 2^nd year of university I applied to a semester abroad in London, England. It was a lengthy interview process and only 15 people out of hundreds got in so I didn’t make the cut. I was devastated. I remember crying in my roommate’s arms, thinking it was the end of the world. But I know now I wasn’t ready then. I think everything happens for a reason and I had to go to Australia first. I had to experience homesickness and being away from home with my (ex) boyfriend before I could move somewhere totally alone.

These past four months have been excruciating. I have cried, laughed at myself, felt true loneliness but also great strength. I have survived. I am so proud of myself for getting back up and trying again. I am so proud of myself for finding the will to change my life for the better and figure out how to be alone. I am changing every single day, in fact, I think I have never grown so much in such a short amount of time. I’ve been reading terrible self-help novels, and some good ones. I’ve been taking advantage of the blogging community. I am changing into the person I want to be. Lately, I have hesitated to mention my break up again as I don’t want to bore you with a self-pity party. Yet, he was four years of my life and I can’t change that. He was a HUGE part of my life but I have learned to make this break up the best thing that ever happened to me. For the first time in my life, I am thinking positively and I am so proud of myself for that.

So here I am. Somewhere in the past four months (in my not quite a quarter life crisis), I have rekindled my dreams. I realized that after Australia I let a few dreams die because I was in a couple. I thought marriage and kids was it for me. I thought my small town was it for me. I thought that was all I wanted. Yet, I was trapped in the confines of a relationship and had no idea that he was suppressing my free spirit and all the dreams I had bottled up inside. I believe that everything happens for a reason, so here I am single and I feel like I have rediscovered the purpose in my life. It is to find myself again, that little girl in grade 9 who had amazing aspirations, who dreamt of England and wouldn’t dream of settling for someone who didn’t want to help her make those dreams come true. I have realized I can’t settle for anyone or anything. It is my goal to make myself a happy, full life and I have realized that only I can do that for myself. No more planning, no more hoping for better times in the future. I have to learn to live in the NOW and face my fears, so England is a step towards breaking down that wall of fears. Slowly, I hope to cross each fear off my list, scratch that, I WILL cross each fear off my list.

The great thing about blogging is that it makes you feel at home no matter where you are. I remember first arriving in Australia and we had no internet. So I went to the university library and the first thing I did (aside from emailing my mom) was go on my fave personal style blogs at the time like Orchid Grey and Delightfully Tacky. These photos are awful as I look super tired and cold in them. Plus, in the close up photo you can see that my tank top under my blouse is pulled down a little too much which reveals a little too much for my liking. But I didn't have many photos from that outfit so it had to go in (so you can see the hearts on my cardi obviously)!

This photo is also an example of what my mom calls my "darth vader blog face". Yep, tell your family you have a blog and you get made fun of in so many ways. Oh, I got a new tripod for my birthday because it is lighter and fits in my purse. When buying it my mom tells the owner of the camera shop she needs it for her daughter. He asks what I'm taking pictures of and she states, "Herself because she is a famous blogger." My mom has no idea what a "famous" blogger is and I'm not one of them but I do enjoy that she is quite supportive of the blog. I am just so thankful that I wasn't there when she told the guy this!

Hello 24…

For some time I have been struggling with the thought of celebrating my birthday this year. It isn’t just about getting older but it is perhaps the place in my life that I’m at. But you know what? I’m coming to terms with it and I am so proud of myself. Last year I was celebrating my 23^rd birthday in Australia surrounded by amazing friends. I held a little Halloween themed get together the weekend before my birthday and my friends surprised me with cake and balloons. Australia was perfection. Here I am a year later in a completely different place. It is strange what time brings isn’t it?

I am feeling like I can truly follow my dreams and fancies right now. I am a free-spirit. I want a unique life full of travel and beauty. I want to feel proud of my life when I look back on it and realize that I followed all of my dreams. I wonder where I will be a year from now? The past few months I have been laying low, going to work, saving money (attempting), reading, concentrating on blogging and family. I have been dealing with self-confidence issues and attempting to face fears. I have been really analyzing who I am and what I want out of life. I am focusing on myself and am preparing/ gathering my strength for great things to come.

Great things WILL come and I am so excited for that. For me, turning 24 is no longer something to fear but something to face with positivity and hope because a new life is waiting for me.

Well, never too much houndstooth for me anyway, as I'm a huge dork that loves things in excess. After every Fall I think I'm over houndstooth and then it comes back into my life. How is your week going guys? I have been getting things ready for the news I have to tell you in December, or sooner if all goes well. Hint- I will be saying "Au Revoir" to Canada. I've also been doing imaginary birthday shopping and creating shopping carts online that will never be checked out because I'm supposed to be saving money right now. I've also been hinting shamelessly to my mother- American Apparel jean disco pants, Dolce Vita boots and a Zara mustard pencil skirt have been mentioned repeatedly. She is really good at ignoring me.

If all goes well I will be done my dog walking job around December and I don't know how I will even last until then. Today I was wearing leggings under jeans, two massive sweaters, a WINTER jacket, a scarf, a hat, gloves and BOOTS. I was still cold. What am I going to do when the snow comes you ask? Ummm no idea. I am actually allergic to the cold, I have an allergy called cold-induced uticaria so I break out in hives when exposed to the cold. So let's just say this job is not suitable for me.

I just dug out my old flapper costume from uni from my closet for a Halloween party I'm going to Saturday. I didn't feel like putting too much effort into a costume this year so I thought my short hair would look nice curled for a flapper outfit. Also, a chance to break out the red lipstick, lace tights and heels is always good!

These photos were very hard to take, which is why they aren't up to their usual caliber. Lately my neighbours have been outside all the time! I usually take photos on our back driveway (seen here) but there are neighbours on both sides. One of them is always out cutting the grass or the other is in their tool shed. The house behind me has a guy who I went to high school with and he is always fixing his motorcycle out there. I'm terrified he's going to be like, "Hey Kirstin? Whatcha doin there with your tripod, bump-it and weird outfit?"

Then I move to my other trusty spot, the little alcove of trees but now the trees are losing their leaves and it is totally bare, so my other neighbour can see me because they are always out doing something! Also, the dogs... Often I start a chain reaction of four dogs barking just because I'm out there. How do people in cities do it? I guess you just have to get used to people around? I feel like an idiot carrying my tripod around and posing with my remote! I will have to get my mother out there with me... She doesn't mind taking photos for me but now that it is getting colder she is a little reluctant.

All this leaves me a little worried for the blog with the big move I have in the works. Ah well, I will face it when the time comes.

Hey my loves! How was your weekend? What did ya do?

My little sister went to a Highland Dancing Competition and got three first place medals! This meant she got the trophy for her age group and also the Overall Beginner trophy! Let's just say I was such a proud sis that I got a little teary! She works so hard and has always wanted to win her first trophy. I will probably post pictures from that in a couple of weeks, of course the one time I forget my camera she wins trophies! So I took her outside and we did a little photo shoot when we got home.

I went to the American Apparel Warehouse sale in Toronto today. I am not a huge fan of AA but I do love their high-waisted jeans and I was hoping they would have some. They didn't. The prices were pretty cheap though so I picked up some coloured tights and a skirt from their vintage line. It was just a fun day out.

I already have a project due for my fun online course (blah) so I will be working on that all night but after I enjoy turkey! Thanksgiving is my fave meal of all time. Yum! Enjoy your turkey coma Canadians!

My life is undergoing many changes right now. The first was so terrible that is struck me down for a period of time. I didn't know where to go or how to move on. This was followed by the desire to make this terrible change the best thing that ever happened to me. I have been rediscovering who I am, what I love doing and what I truly want out of life. I have always been a shy, quiet person who has liked spending time alone (gasp, the horror) and now I am doing just that. I am also pushing the limits of my shy self, if I don't create change or go after what I want, everything will stay the same. I'm sorry if this blog has become a little self-indulgent (ha, a personal style blog self-indulgent?) the last couple of months but I'm undergoing so many changes and trying to become the person I've always wanted to be and I guess I need an outlet for it. There are big changes in the works in the next couple of months- I'm hoping everything works out and if I don't like them- well they will just make me stronger! If the negative changes hadn't occured I would never have thought of creating these changes in my life in regards to fitness, a job and where I'm living. Perhaps everything does happen for a reason! Within the next couple of years I'm sure that a new, better me will emerge! It's a slower process than I'd like it to be but I'm truly trying to take the time to recover and rebuild my life for the better.

To change the subject, yesterday, I walked out of my room and my brother stops, gives me an odd look and says, "Your hair just keeps getting bigger and bigger." Then he proceeded to pat my head to check out if the bump-it was in there. Ouch, yes it was.

I've been enjoying keeping my outfits a little more simple and minimal lately. While for many, mustard yellow, butterfly prints, a sky-high hair-style and wedges are not simple or minimal but for me it is getting there. Last winter (my first winter on the blog), my style was very "old lady chic", I feel like I was trying to do too much because I just wasn't secure with myself on the ol' blog. That's not to say I'm perfectly at ease with myself but this season I feel I am really deciding what I like/ don't like and sticking to it. Happy Monday my beautiful friends! Everyday I am so thankful to have you guys! You are all little angels who have helped me through a tough time and I am so grateful for that!

This outfit is pretty simple, just a basic floral dress accessorized with lots of black! The outfit has a little more of a tough vibe with the faux leather jacket and boots than I'm used to. Doesn't feel very "me" but my identity as a person is changing every single day now! I am taking steps to improve myself as a person and face my fears! My wardrobe may reflect this!

The leaves are starting to look just amazing around my small town. I live in an area with tons of dirt roads and beautiful trees so I'm hoping to capture all the gorgeous Fall scenes around me soon. The house behind me is my neighbours so I was pretty excited to see their car gone and decided to pose in front of this wonderful tree. By little photoshoot ended quickly however when their car came in the driveway! I booted it to shelter and hid! Ah, the life of a personal style blogger!

Sorry for the picture overload my loves, I just liked the pictures and fall colours!

I'm sorry there hasn't been much writing here lately. I am supposed to be an English teacher and lately the words just aren't coming to me. I am at such a turning point in my life and I have to admit, I'm struggling with it so I have been leaving you with quotes and short comments on here. No amount of lists, stress or preparation can help me with this. This summer my life fell apart and I am slowly trying to build it back up. The process is going slower than I had planned but that's life. Next week I start an online course in hopes of it helping me get a teaching job. I am planning other crazy things in the area of my career and struggling with what the right decision is. Do I leave the comfort of my home to do something absolutely terrifying? Yet, it could pay off eventually. I am at such a turning point and I don't know where to go.

On a brighter note- I have been taking Zumba classes to keep myself busy. It is actually really fun and I'm enjoying being more active. People I know (who shall not be named) would laugh at me because they know I am just not an active person (aside from my dog walking job this summer) but I am loving it!

In case some of you don't know, while I wait for a teaching job (could be forever in Ontario) I am a dog walker and also a waitress at a wing restaurant/ bar. I'm getting sick of it all so I have compiled a lovely list for you!

Reasons why I need a teaching job immediately:

1. My "summer" jobs have now become permanent jobs.

2. I realized the other day while walking a chocolate lab that I was having an intense conversation with her about getting her a stick. We spent about 5 minutes looking for a stick while I cooed, "This is the perfect stick Charlotte, let me just break it in half for you. Okay, you help me." If any one had walked by I would have been pretty embarrassed.

3. I now talk about the dogs as if they are people when I'm at home. I often say, "Oh Codee did this today, it was so funny!" Then my mom goes, "Who's Codee? A new friend?" To which I roll my eyes and reply, "Umm nope, just a yorkshire terrier mom."

4. I wear the same thing every day, yep, doing the laundry goes out the window when you smell like a dog daily.

5. I ACTUALLY smell like dog. Driving to another walk, I catch a whiff of myself and am disgusted by the fact that I reek of a Newfoundland dog.

6. Now for the waitressing: Aside from smelling like dog, I often smell of beer. After a keg exploding on me or a spilled pitcher, I often wonder what a police officer would say if he pulled me over one night after a shift.

7. I have 101 flavours of chicken wings memorized. Yep, that's why I have my Masters in Education.

8. I get excited when the regulars come in so I have someone to talk to at the bar- the regulars being 50 year old alcoholics.

9. A middle aged man tried to hit on me last week by stating that he was so attracted by my nose, I must be Italian. He argued about my background for awhile, nope, no Italian in me. Aside from stereotyping Italians, did you actually just hit on me by saying I have a big nose?

Hi loves, I hope your weekend was great! I had quite the cold this weekend so aside from going to my sister's dance comp and work, I pretty much lay in bed and watched episodes of Mad Men. I'm sorry guys, I'm currently obsessed with browsing Tumbler for literature and quotes that currently define where I'm at in life. I found this one from Life of Pi (amazing book) and it truly struck me. For as long as I can remember, I have tried to plan my life out. I have planned my university, my courses, my outfits, making lists of everything in hopes that I could control my future. I even tried to plan out my love life and look how that turned out. Yet, when I step back to look, my life would have been extremely predictable and average. It would have been a dull life where I learned nothing and lived safely, inside the box. Now, I am forced to think and live outside the box. As I live my life, I will have a story that will surprise me and make me think differently. Right now I don't know how my life will turn out in regards to a career, a place to live, the country I live in or the person I will spend my life with. Mostly, it kills me inside that I can't control all of this but a part of me is excited to see where life takes me, outside the box.

I hope you've all enjoyed your long weekend! I went to the zoo and went shopping for a day in Buffalo, very busy busy! Oh and did you guys see my shoes? I never wear heels but decided I would take baby steps with wedges, just trying to live outside the box! He he!

I'm terribly sorry about my inconsistent blogging lately. I am still trying to sort out some issues in my life and have had no motivation to get dolled up much. On the bright side (for you guys, not for my bank account), I have done some Fall shopping that I am excited to share! I've wanted accordian pleats for so long, so my grade 10 semi formal dress will have to do. I actually can't believe it was still lying around! This outfit could have used a belt as it is a little too shapeless for my liking but oh well! What are you ladies doing this weekend? After dog walking I will be going shopping with my mom and then out with an old friend from high school. This weekend are the largest Highland games in Ontario so of course we will be attending for my sister's competition. We will see how she does as they have over 300 dancers competing!

I just did a painting for the first time in 2 years, it isn't my best but it is good to get back into it!

Hello my dears, I have missed you all very much. This is just an outfit post I've had around for awhile as I'm not particularly fond of it but I figured I better get back to you.

I guess I must explain my absence. Four weeks ago, my boyfriend of four years broke up with me with little explanation and absolutely no warning. This was the man I thought I was going to marry, I guess I was wrong. I have never felt like this in my whole life.

I took a little hiatus from the blog world to gather my strength as I must admit, it was tough even going to work every day, never mind looking pretty and taking pictures for the blog. I could depress you with details but I won’t do that as this a personal style blog, not a relationship blog. I suppose that’s why I needed the break, so I didn’t divulge too many horrible and pathetic details about my personal life.

As I realize that the greatest chapter of my life is closed, I must move on. My whole life is shattered, with no prospects for a teaching job and the person I thought I would spend the rest of my life with gone. I am the type of person who needs a plan. As I may have mentioned, I am quite the list and goal- oriented type. I have given this some thought over the past four weeks and I have decided to use this change in my life as an opportunity to change it for the better. I cannot sit around wallowing, hoping he comes back because he won’t. In fact, after all this I’m not sure I would even want him back. I need something to keep me going and make me excited again for the future. I have decided to get proactive in changing my life, I won’t reveal exactly what this change is until around December or January because I’m not sure it will work out yet! I want to feel independent, strong and happy again. I want to look back at this situation twenty years from now and say, “Oh ya, I remember that guy I dated, I’m so glad he broke up with me and I didn’t marry him. Look how much better my life turned out without him!” He has made me feel weak, worthless and thrown away like a piece of garbage.

But I am strong.

I am beautiful.

I am independent.

I can do this.

P.S- Did I mention that I have to see him at graduation? Kill me now.

Product Review: Corioliss 7" wand ceramic curling iron

When I got offered the Corioliss 7" wand ceramic curling iron from Misikko to do a product review, I jumped at the chance. I thought that a curling wand would fit right into my blog because I always curl my hair. It has become my fave style to sport. Plus, my current curling iron was 10 dollars at Walmart so I was excited to try something better! I received the package and was thrilled to find other goodies like E.L.F makeup, a Misikko sleeping mask, hand sanitizer and a case for my new curling wand. I've always been obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw's curly bob, yet, even when I cut my hair into a bob and curled it I didn't get the results that I wanted. Then, Misikko's curling wand entered my life. While it took some time to get used to, I do love it. The wand heats up almost instantly, unlike my Walmart iron. This means that it takes little time to do my hair! At first, I struggled with the glove they provided, it made my hair frizzy and my fingers were too small for the glove. Then, I tried no glove and got burnt one too many times. I struggled with how to curl using the wand. I got beachy waves instead of perfect curls, I was convinced the wand was just not suitable for my short hair. So I decided to Youtube the curling wand and I was met with tons of helpful video tutorials on using the wand with long and SHORT hair. I found these ones helpful, here and here. With practice, I achieved the Carrie Bradshaw curly bob that I've always loved! It's quick, super hot and easy (once you figure it out)!

Hey dears! How was your weekend? Mine was lovely and lazy! I went to another Highland dancing competition where my sister place 4th, 5th and 6th in her category amongst 18 other girls! I'm so proud of my little dancer! Then yesterday I watched season 2 of Mad Men (I didn't get into the show until this summer via Netflix). In the evening I caught up with two old friends who I hadn't seen in forever, probably about the only two high school friends I have left!

On to the outfit, I had so much fun taking these pictures! The flowers were a lovely prop, although there were bees buzzing around my head. There are actually a view hilarious pictures of me freaking out because I thought I was about to be stung! I love this pretty, dainty and comfy outfit. It is pretty simple as its just a dress but I tried to add a bit of flair! By the end of this little outfit shoot, my camera and face were covered in pollen from the lilies, he he!

Okay, leopard AGAIN guys. Also, tomorrow's post features leopard; I think this week is an all time record for me. I didn't even know I liked leopard pieces that much, they just show up in my closet and I gravitate to them as a neutral. Also, AGAIN with the beehive. I'm sorry guys, I told you I was obsessed! Some of you asked me to create a tutorial for the beehive which I'm kinda hesitant to do because I am using a bump-it! I couldn't for the life of me tease my hair at the crown to create the proper effect so I bought a set of bump-its. Yep, I'm a cheater. I'm really liking using this old barn at my neighbour's house for photos. It provides a nice contrast for outfits; I just have to be careful that they aren't home!

Another beehive inspired look! I'm having fun with them! So I have been waiting for a skirt I bought from Romwe (a lot of bloggers get free clothing from them) for a few weeks and today I just received an email saying that my order had been refunded with NO explanation as to why. I am so annoyed, mostly because I really wanted the skirt!

The skirt I am wearing in this post is definitely way too short, I think I will put it away until I can wear it in the fall! I like the mustard yellow and leopard combo, I really seem to wear a lot of leopard in my outfits, I had no idea!

Hey lovelies! I hate Tuesdays, hope this day goes by very quickly! I love this lace dress, it is so dainty and delicate. I have so many ideas for outfits with it! I thought I would make it a bit more casual with the heart-printed cardigan and the flats. I'm not a super dressy person, if I wear heels I feel super uncomfortable so flats are always the way I go!
